Communication & Collaboration Services

You can connect and collaborate with colleagues using the following tools.

Communicating Online

The Google G-Suite of applications makes online communication easy.

  • Gmail - Gmail is the official New School email service. The majority of email communications will happen via your @newschool.edu email address.

  • Google Drive - Drive is useful for collaboration and cloud storage. You can share Google Docs, Slides, Sheets, and other documents through Google Drive.

  • Google Hangouts - Hangouts is a chat or instant message service provided by Google. You can also use Hangouts as a web conferencing tool. Click here to learn how to access Hangouts.

  • Google Calendar - Google Calendar is a useful tool for scheduling meetings. You can include Zoom or other web conferencing information in a Google Calendar invite so participants can attend remotely.

Online Meetings

Zoom is The New School's official web conferencing service. Faculty, staff, and students can all access Zoom from off campus enabling "face-to-face" communication with screen sharing capabilities and record meeting options. Currently, Zoom meeting hosts can invite up to 300 participants, including those from outside The New School community.

The New School Zoom Hotline is for immediate troubleshooting support to assist faculty, students and staff navigate to a specific zoom meeting, assist with zoom meeting controls and escalate specific issues to additional teams, ready to assist getting online classes moving.


How to Prevent Zoombombings

Follow these guidelines to help prevent zoombombers from disrupting your class or meetings. If you do experience a Zoombombing incident, you can report it to the New School Zoom Support Hotline or via email at itcentral@newschool.edu

Telephone Services

Information Technology offers Jabber Softphone which is a service that allows you to use your New School phone number to make and receive calls on your laptop, desktop computer, smartphone, and/or tablet.

To access Jabber, please fill out the Jabber Softphone Request form.

Jabber also allows you to access your voicemail directly from the app. Learn how to set up your voicemail and access it from off campus here.
