Additional information

  • Adobe RGB (1998) is the recommended profile for printing in the labs. RGB color converts automatically at each printer for quality color. Adobe CS design applications in the labs default to RGB mode, Adobe RGB (1998) regardless of whether or not they are vector or raster based.
  • Note to those of you who are advanced "color managers": Technically, RGB mode is optimal for printing a raster file such as a Photoshop file or jpeg, while CMYK is optimal when printing a vector file such as an Illustrator file or gif.
  • edu Services (formerly Academic Technology) has implemented a deliberate and thorough plan for color management. This way, "what you see is what you get." Input devices (such as scanners), monitors, and color printers are all calibrated and synchronized to create uniform color throughout your workflow.
  • When you create a new file in the labs, the file is by default set for you to work with the correct color profiles. RGB mode Adobe RGB (1998) is the default for Adobe CS applications. The working RGB color profile is "Adobe 1998", and the working CMYK color profile is "U.S. Web Coated (SWOP)v2".
  • If you worked with a different color profile at home and embedded the profile into your documents, when you open the files in the labs choose "Convert Document's Colors to the Working Space" when you are prompted. This will bring your file into the correct lab workflow.
