Information Technology has initiated the process of cleaning out Google accounts belonging to individuals who are no longer active with the university. Phase one of this cleanup, which began in January, has involved the deletion of files that were not shared with anyone. We are now preparing for phase two, which will begin on June 1, 2024. During this phase, we will begin deleting files that are shared with others within the university.

It is crucial to note that if you have files shared with you by individuals who are no longer part of the university, these files will be permanently deleted unless you take the necessary steps to save them to your account or a Google shared drive account.

To ensure the safety of your files and shared materials, we urge you to review the guidance provided in the links below. These resources will outline the specific steps you need to take to safeguard any shared files before the cleanup process begins.

IT is currently working on a tool to help you identify the shared files that will be impacted by the cleanup, but we recommend that you use the resources above to begin reviewing your files until that tool becomes available. In the coming weeks we will also introduce a new Google Account & File Retention Policy that will provide insight into how we will be managing the university’s storage moving forward.
