Information Technology (IT) will be performing two major upgrades this month that may cause access issues to various New School services (please see below). We recognize that this is a very busy time at the university and have worked with various departments, including the Provost, Registrar, and Business & Operations Offices to determine the dates and times for the upgrades to minimize the impact on the New School community.

Network Upgrade

Friday, May 20, 9:00 p.m. - Saturday, May 21, 5:00 a.m.

Saturday, May 21, 9:00 p.m. - Sunday, May 22, 5:00 a.m.

What’s happening

IT is conducting a major network infrastructure upgrade that includes the crucial replacement of outdated equipment to avoid future network disruptions due to equipment failure. Upgrades will occur on a rolling basis throughout the two nights at various locations on and off-campus.

Work for this upgrade is planned at the following locations:

  • 32 Avenue of Americas (off-campus)

  • 79 Fifth Ave./ 6 E 16th St.

  • 55 West 13th St.

  • 66 West 12th St.

  • 2 West 13th St.

  • 65 Fifth Ave. 

What to expect

The network upgrade will potentially cause intermittent outages of various services including those that are on campus or remote. 

Services possibly impacted:

  • On-campus internet access

  • MyNewSchool

  • Banner

  • Zoom

  • Canvas

  • MyDay

  • VPN

  • Jabber and New School phones

  • and other institutional services

Please note: significant downtime is not expected. If you experience problems with any of these services during the upgrade time, please check back at a later time.


MyNewSchool Upgrade

Thursday, May 26, 12:00 a.m. to Friday, May 27, 11:00 p.m.

What’s happening

IT is performing a critical upgrade to MyNewSchool to bring our current version of MyNewSchool up to standard, avoiding further support and technical limitations we currently experience.   

What to expect

During the upgrade
This upgrade is expected to last for approximately two days. During this time, MyNewSchool will be completely unavailable, however, we will have a “jump” page available for students, faculty, and staff to access commonly used links located in MyNewSchool such as submit grades, view grades, access to apps locker links, etc. This page will automatically be displayed if you go to my.newschool.edu during the upgrade.

Also, please note that during this upgrade, password change/reset on account.newschool.edu will be unavailable. If your password is expiring during the time of the upgrade, please make sure to change or reset your password BEFORE the start of the upgrade.

This is what the jump page will look like during the upgrade. Students and faculty will have access to the services typically found in MyNewSchool via the links on this page.

After the upgrade
After the upgrade is complete, you’ll notice a slightly different look to MyNewSchool, however, you should still be able to see all of the information and perform all of the different tasks you were able to complete prior to the upgrade.
