Quick Start Guide for Faculty

Welcome to The New School! We are excited to help you join our academic community and access the tools and resources you’ll need to connect and collaborate throughout your learning experience. Our Quick Start Guide will help you set up the technologies, systems, and software you’ll use most. Get started using the instructions below.

Before You Arrive on Campus

Claim Your New School Account
  • Every faculty member receives a New School account. This account helps you access many New School services.
  • To claim your account, follow the New School Account Setup Guide. You will need your N-Number, which is sent to your personal email when you are accepted into the university.
  • To ensure your account remains secure, you will be required to enroll in DUO multi-factor authentication.
Sign into MyNewSchool
  • MyNewSchool is the student portal where you can find important information and services.
  • After 24 hours of claiming your account, log in to MyNewSchool to explore.

  • If you need to print on campus, set up your devices first.
  • Faculty also have the option to print from the Faculty Resource Center. Learn more about the Faculty Resource Center and additional faculty resources here.
Explore Information Technology Spaces

There are many tech spaces on campus where you can get help and use computers. Look for technology labs, the Equipment Center, and IT Central.

Canvas

Please redirect your request to Student and Academic Systems (sas@newschool.edu) if your query is related to:

  • Creating Canvas user accounts;
  • Adding users to a Canvas course;
  • Fixing login issues with Canvas;
  • Publishing a Canvas course;

You can also contact the 24/7 Canvas Help Hotline by clicking the “Get Help” icon in the menu bar within Canvas or calling the Canvas Support Hotline directly at +1 (833) 225-1545.

Please redirect your request to onlinelearning@newschool.edu if your query is regarding:

  • Setting up and designing a course on Canvas;
  • Consulting on online pedagogy and best practices;
  • Reviewing a course on Canvas;
  • Importing content from another Canvas course;
  • Using different Canvas tools for your course (e.g. assignments, quizzes, gradebook);
  • Using or integrating any other online education tool in Canvas or otherwise (e.g. MURAL, Hypothesis, VoiceThread, Badges, Examity).
  • Reopening a closed Canvas course;
  • Creating/duplicating a Canvas course shell;
  • Cross-listing Canvas courses;
  • Allowing Admin access for a college sub-account.

Graduates and Adult Learners

To apply to any of our Master's, Doctural, Professional Studies Diploma, Graduates Certificate, or Associate's programs, or to apply to the Bachelor's Program for Adult and Transfer Students, complete and submit the New School Online Application.
