IMPORTANT GOOGLE STORAGE UPDATES AND INFO

As previously communicated last year, Google announced they will no longer be offering unlimited storage to their higher education customers. Information Technology has been working to develop a plan of action to assist the community as we begin a university-wide effort to reduce our storage footprint.

Storage Quotas Beginning June 28, 2023 [Updated date]

In an effort to slow storage growth in advance of the storage limit deadline, we will be implementing 25GB storage quotas for student, faculty, and staff accounts beginning June 28, 2023. A tiered approach based on current usage will be used to implement these quotas and accounts exceeding 25GB at this time will receive a larger quota to accommodate additional storage.

The majority of students, faculty, and staff use under 25GB of storage and will not be immediately affected by this new storage quota. Faculty and staff who require additional space for education, research, or projects can request additional storage. For more details, review our Google Storage Quota Guide.

Upcoming Info Sessions & Available Resources

Over the next year, we’ll be guiding community members through the process of evaluating storage usage, cleaning up Google Drive, and deleting documents shared by alumni and inactive accounts. 

Join us on Tuesday, April 25th from 12:15pm to 1:00pm for a virtual introductory info session on the critical steps taken to clean up our existing storage, and general guidance for clearing space on your own account(s).

We’ll also be hosting a series of virtual Google Storage Management Info Sessions next month. These upcoming spring sessions will be held on the following dates:

  • Tuesday, May 2, 1:00pm - 2:00pm & 3:30pm - 4:30pm

  • Thursday, May 4, 11:00am - 12:00pm & 2:00pm - 3:00 pm

  • Tuesday, May 9, 10:00am - 11:00am 

  • Wednesday, May 10, 1:00pm - 2:00pm & 3:30pm - 4:30pm

  • Monday, May 22, 1:00pm - 2:00pm
