Your New School account will allow you to log into various services available to a New School student, faculty, or staff member. Please follow the instructions below to set up your account.
Things you’ll need to set up your account
- NetID
- New School ID number (N-Number)
- Mobile device to set up multi-factor, if prompted
* Your New School ID number should have been sent to your personal email address when you were admitted as a student or after you’ve completed your new hire paperwork.
Set up you account
When setting up your New School account you will need to create a password and if prompted, set up Duo multifactor.
- Go to https://account.newschool.edu
- Click on "Reset Your Password"
- Enter your NetID (username) and click "Continue"
- You will be redirected to our Account Management Portal
- Verify your identity by entering you New School ID Number (N-number)
- Click "Submit"
- If you are prompted to protect your New School account, you will need to do so by setting up Duo multi-factor. Click “Start setup” to start this process.
Setting up Duo Multi-factor
When prompted, select the type of device you would like to set up to be used as your verification device and click “Continue”.
Guidance For International Students
Where you set up your Duo multi-factor for the first time is important to note, especially if you set up multi-factor in your home country and then travel to a New School campus located in another country. For instance, if you live in a country outside of the United States but will be attending The New School at our New York City campus, setting up multi-factor in your home country will mean you will need to take certain steps to access your account when you arrive in NYC.
It is highly recommended that international students set up multi-factor using the Duo Mobile app (following the instructions below). This will allow you to use multi-factor by sending push notifications or using the Duo app generated code when only wifi is available to you.
Before you travel, please refer to the multi-factor guide for international students to ensure you have the necessary set up.
Device Options
Mobile Phone (Highly recommended)
- Enter your phone number. You can change the country by selecting the dropdown.
- Verify that you have entered the correct number by checking the checkbox and then click “Continue”.
- Select the type of phone and click “Continue”.
- If selecting “Other”, you will only have the option to have codes texted to your mobile phone (Not recommended for international students). When prompted, select “Continue to Login”, then click “Text me new codes”. You will be texted 10 codes that you can use to log through Duo. Enter one of the codes into the text field on the account page and click “Log in. Then jump to step 9 below.
- You will then need to download the Duo Mobile app on your mobile phone. Go to the app store and search Duo Mobile to install.
- Once installed, on the account page, click “I have Duo Mobile”.
- You will then be presented a QR code. Open the Duo Mobile app on your mobile phone and tap “Add+”. Then select “Use QR code”. Scan the QR code on the account page with your mobile phone.
- Alternatively, you can have an activation link sent to your email.
- Tap “Save” on the Mobile app.
- Then go back to the account page and click “Continue”
- Select “Ask me to choose an authentication method” in the dropdown menu and then click “Continue to Login”.
- Select “Send me a Push” on the account page. You will then receive a push notification on your mobile phone. Tap to open the notification on your mobile device and then tap “Approve”.
Tablet
- Select the type of tablet you are adding and click “Continue”
- You will then need to download the Duo Mobile app on your tablet. Go to the app store and search Duo Mobile to install.
- Once installed, on the account page, click “I have Duo Mobile”.
- You will then be presented a QR code on the account page. Open the Duo Mobile app on your tablet and tap “Add+”. Then select “Use QR code”. Scan the QR code on the account page with your tablet.
- Alternatively, you can have an activation link sent to your email.
- Tap “Save” on the Mobile app.
- Then go back to the account page and click “Continue”
- Select “Ask me to choose an authentication method” in the dropdown menu and then click “Continue to Login”.
- Select “Send me a Push” on the account page. You will then receive a push notification on your tablet. Tap to open the notification on your tablet and then tap “Approve”.
- You will be asked to create a new password
- Make sure the new password meets the password rules (on the right-hand side)
- Confirm and click "Submit"
