Access New School Services with your NetID & Password

What is a NetID?

Your NetID acts as your username for the various services provided to you as a New School faculty including MyNewSchool, Canvas, Zoom, Adobe Creative Cloud Apps, Google Apps, Office 365, computers on campus, and many other online and on-campus services.

  • Your NetID is your username, a combination of last name, first name initial “SmithJ”

  • Your NetID is used to create your default New School Email address

    • Example: Smithj@newschool.edu

Find your NetID

To find your NetID and/or change your password, go to account.newschool.edu and follow the prompt.

Important Note:

  • Your NetID password expires every 180 days.
  • If you miss the “change password” prompts from MyNewSchool or your New School email, you can always change/reset your password on the Account Services page.

Quick Tip:

If you are having issues with accessing any services available to you as a New School faculty you may need to reset your password. To do so go to account.newschool.edu and follow the instructions.

New School ID Card

New School ID cards are provided to faculty who require access to campus facilities.

New faculty may submit their own passport-style photo for use on their official New School ID card. In addition to its use on your card, the photo is used to represent you in several places including the University Directory and Faculty Bios on The New School's public website.

To learn more about how to submit your photo and receive your New School ID card, please visit the newcard website.

If you have questions regarding your New School ID, please contact Campus Card Services at newcard@newschool.edu or 646.909.4472.

Connect to the New School WiFi

When arriving on campus, one of the first things you’ll want to do is connect to the New School WiFi.

New School faculty should use "newschool" wifi

To connect:

  1. While on campus, enable wifi on your laptop or mobile device
  2. Select 'newschool' wireless network
  3. Enter your NetID and password
  4. Verify wifi certificate if prompted

Android and Chromebook Users

Certain Android devices may require you to enter additional information before connecting to the "newschool" wifi. Please enter the information below:

  • EAP: PEAP
  • Phase 2 Authentication: Mschapv2
  • CA Certificate: Don't validate
    • If you receive an error that says "No certificate specified. Your connection will not be private" please set the CA certificate to "Use system certificates".
  • Domain: newschool.edu
  • Identity: your NetID
  • Anonymous Identity leave blank
  • Password: your New School password

More information about WiFi networks available on campus, including dorm wifi access, can be found here.

Quick Tip:

Returning faculty: if you are unable to automatically connect to the newschool wifi network it may mean that you've changed your New School password and need to update the password you are using to log into the newschool wifi. To do so, disconnect from the newschool network on your device (you may have to forget the network as well) and re-select the network to be prompted to enter your NetID and updated password. If you continue to have issues, you may need to reset your password at account.newschool.edu.

Multi-factor Authentication

To keep information secure, The New School requires that all students and employees use multi-factor authentication when accessing certain university systems that may contain sensitive and/or Personally Identifiable Information (PII). This additional layer of security ensures that even if your password information is compromised, there is a second step of verification to help prevent unauthorized account access.

Getting Started

We use Duo Security to implement employee multi-factor authentication. To start, you must download and install the Duo app and enroll a device. Navigate to multifactor.newschool.edu to enroll or manage your device(s).

For a step-by-step guide, see How to Set Up Duo for multi-factor authentication and Installing Duo on your device.
